Mechanical Design Engineer I

Qualifications

AA or equivalent with 3 years experience or BSME with 1 year experience. Demonstrated knowledge of engineering materials. Electronics and/or antenna industry background.

Job Purpose

Creates mechanical engineering designs and related fabrication drawings. Support roles on various design projects creating piece part design and some vendor research if applicable. Develops some initial configuration management as required. Design with 3D modeling and FEA analysis tools, preferably SolidWorks. Practice with cost reduction techniques. Utilizes DFM and DFA requirements. Works under immediate supervision. Relies on instruction and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job. Performs first article inspection and report.

Essential Functions:

  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design antennas.
  • 3D Solid Assembly Model Development.
  • Fabrication Drawings and Development.
  • Limited or assigned configuration management development.
  • FEA Analysis and report.
  • First Article Inspection and report.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years of experience is required OR at least 3 years of experience is required. Some knowledge of antenna and/or RF theory and experiments preferred. Experience with a variety of current manufacturing processes. Laboratory experience with antenna testing desired. Project management experience from the concept through design to prototype development to testing of the prototype and the initial production. Computer modeling and simulation of antennas and RF circuits. Solid computer skills required and ability to learn new skills quickly essential. Ability to effectively interact with technical staff and customer community. Ability to work with employees at all levels. Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive project goals. Exceptional people skills are necessary for this support position. Must be highly organized, efficient, and able to handle multiple tasks with ease and professionalism. Desirable experience in an engineering development organization. US citizenship. Ability to qualify for a US government security clearance.

Job Purpose

Support antenna testing and existing antenna designs to meet requirements on domestic and international projects. Must also be able to communicate clearly with customers, via written proposals, technical reports, and technical briefings. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the antenna industry

Essential Functions:

  • Performs development and design work for antennas.
  • Projects to include fabrication, modification, and evaluation of components.
  • Responds to technical questions and requests from customers.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments.
  • Work on new designs of broadband microwave antenna. Supports efforts within antenna ranges and programs.
